Hi all. If you're anything like me you spent much of the beginning of August glued to your TV watching the Olympics. Still sad it's over? Well, it's not. The 2012 London Paralympics begin on the 29th. Thousands of the world's best disabled athletes will compete in sports ranging from track and swimming to goalball and wheelchair rugby. The International Paralympic Committee's website has more info on sports, athletes and much more. http://www.paralympic.org They'll also be livestreaming every minute of competition, plus the Opening and Closing ceremonies, something that can't be said for US TV and networks throughout the world for that matter. I plan to watch as much of it as I can, hope you'll do the same. And do we have any blind Paralympians on here? The Zone's a pretty huge place with members from all over the world, we must have at least one person competing. If you or someone you know is involved let us know so we can cheer you on.

I know most of the Canadian goalball teams, and a couple swimmers. I hope they will be archiving all the coverage because of time difference

I'm glad they're going to stream it. I'd love for my son to watch it. I wonder if the announcers will be descriptive. Hope so.

Hope so too. I know for the Winter Games they did have commentary for some events but not others. This year we'll have five channels to chose from on the Paralympic site, so you'd think at least one of those would feature a good amount of description. Kate, I'll definitely have to check out the Canadian athletes now. I've never seen a live goalball match so I look forward to watching those. Wonder if the US and Canada will be playing each other. And I think there will be archives and highlights of the various events on the main Paralympic site which can be watched whenever. Also check out the International Paralympic Committee's YouTube channel. A number of athletes from various countries are making video blogs about their time in London.

Awesome! Great to hear. USA women are in London, but the men aren't. In pool play, Canada will face Sweden, USA, Australia and Japan.. very exciting! I hope they will ahve archives of all the games so that we can watch at our leisure when the games are over (time change and all that)

Thanks for the info Kate. And we've finally reached the big day. The Opening Ceremony will take place in a few hours. Don't know much about what'll be going on except that Stephen Hawking is involved, which is pretty cool. You can watch it, along with every other Paralympic event, on the official IPC website. here's a schedule of the streams:
http://paralympic.org/Events/London2012/Schedule
Looks like every channel will have commentary, so we should be able to follow the action just fine. Also be sure to search for the Paralympics on YouTube. A lot of athletes are making video blogs of their time in London. Watched a very amusing rap by the US track team this morning. And finally, would an admin or CL mind moving this topic over to Sports Bar? Think I posted it in the wrong place. Oops.

How exciting! The USA's doing great in the medal count, though it seems China has everyone beat. A friend-of-a-friend was in the judo competition, don't think she managed to medal but still very exciting. I'm also very excited for my ancestral homeland. Two Irish guys won golds in track yesterday. Very cool. There's also a blind swimmer who won a gold and a silver so far. He's a Navy lieutenant who lost his sight last year while serving in Afghanistan. A true inspiration. I've also enjoyed watching sports I've never seen before, especially five-a-side football, which is soccer for blind people. Don't think the US has a team for it, but it seems pretty big in Europe, just like regular soccer. Haven't caught any goalball yet, hopefully there'll be some on tomorrow. And I'm looking forward to checking out wheelchair rugby. That game's intense.

CBC was playing a feed from BBC about wheelchair basketball.. super intense! It doesn't look like they are streaming any goalball, which sucks! Canadian women are doing okay, one win and a loss, but they play Japan tomorrow (Monday) and USA Tuesday. The guys aren't doing so well *sighs*

Well Australia finished Top 5 this year, we also got Gold in Wheelchair Rugby, we absolutely smashed Canada in the Final.

It was a great Competition and I just wish the Media here in Australia would show more coverages of this amazing athletes.
